I'm Eron. I travel solo, and I built TravelConnectly because working out which VPN, eSIM, or travel tool actually fits a trip took me far longer than it should have.
Why this site exists
Most "best VPN" articles are written for everyone at once. They tell you a provider is fast and secure, and stop there. That's not much help when what you actually need to know is whether it will hold up on hostel WiFi in a country you've never been to, or whether it's worth paying for a whole year when your trip is three months.
Traveling alone, those questions matter more. There's nobody else to hand your phone to when something stops working, and no shared plan to fall back on. So I started writing down what I worked out, organised by the kind of trip rather than by product.
How I decide what to recommend
Every guide on this site compares providers using official specifications, published pricing, and independently verified audit reports — and I update them as providers change what they offer. The recommendation reflects fit for a specific travel scenario, not which company pays the most.
I want to be plain about two things:
- I don't test every provider in a lab. I'm one person, not a testing team with speed-test rigs in twelve countries. Where I'm drawing on published testing rather than my own, the guide says so.
- This site earns commission. If you sign up through a link here, I may earn a small amount at no extra cost to you. That's how the site stays free. It doesn't change which provider gets recommended for which use case — and where the best answer is a provider I earn nothing from, I say so. Proton VPN is listed as the free option in several guides for exactly that reason.
What you'll find here
Guides organised by trip type rather than by product: backpacking, remote work, solo travel, long-term trips, and more. Alongside VPNs, there's coverage of eSIMs for staying online across borders, and the practical stuff around it — insurance, money, and public WiFi safety.
The full list is on the guides page.
